May 24,  · I presonally liked "The Family" by Mario Puzo, a novel. The novel is about Pope Alexander VI (Rodrigo Borgia) and his family. Puzo spent over twenty years working on the book off and on, while he wrote others. It was finished by his longtime. Though best known for sweeping historical epics such as Scaramouche and the Captain Blood series, Rafael Sabatini also dabbled in nonfiction from time to time, usually with wonderful results. This biography of Italian aristocrat and clergyman Cesare Borgia is packed with the kind of vivid descriptive detail that you don't usually find in musty history books/5(3).

The book talks about Cesare Borgia, his life, his work, and what was said about him. Sabatini quoted many Borgia historians whether they were pro- or anti-Borgia. At parts, the author praised Cesare Borgia's appearance and wit. It took every contradiction to Cesare's character like a grain of salt, giving him the benefit of the doubt.3/5(3). This lesson examines the life and death of Cesare Borgia. Born into the highly ambitious and infamous Borgia family, through his life Cesare carved a lasting legacy for himself and became the most.

He was a Renaissance captain who, as holder of the offices of duke of the Romagna and captain general of the armies of the church, enhanced the political power of his father’s papacy and tried to establish his own principality in central Italy.

Almost five centuries have passed since Cesare Borgia's death, yet his reputation still casts a sinister shadow. Mar 02,  · Sabatini is reported to have been fluent in at least six languages, and he frequently includes quotations in French, Italian, and Latin. I would hope to find a version that includes translations of these sections, and one with a map showing the place names used throughout this book.
